In a world grappling with the dual challenges of waste management and food security, the Rani Laxmibai Girls Military School, Kasar Amboli Pune stands as a shining example of innovation and sustainability. Over a period from December 2024 to March 2025, this educational institute undertook a remarkable initiative that transformed approximately 9 tons of wet waste into fertile compost, showcasing how local solutions can effectively tackle global problems. The journey began with the establishment of a composting plant under the guidance of Smt. Anushka Kajbaje ,within the school premises. The intention was not only to manage the organic waste generated daily but also to create an opportunity for learning and skill development among the school staff . This hands-on training given by Smt. Anushka Kajbaje empowered them to operate and maintain the plant efficiently, ensuring that the process was sustainable long after the initial setup. The meticulous efforts of the Smt. Anushka Kajbaje and staff in managing the composting process have turned what was once waste into a valuable resource. This initiative not only addresses waste management but also exemplifies how schools can become self-sufficient by reusing resources. The girls at Rani Laxmibai are actively participating in agriculture, cultivating a range of vegetables including brinjal, radish, and spring onion and bottle guard. So far, they have successfully harvested 50 kilograms of brinjal, which is incorporated into the school meals. Harit Sangh 2025 is the initiative of GATIVIDHI (Paryavaran) to bring the educational institutes, religious institutes, NGOs, and NARI Shakti under one platform to spread environmental awareness, understand the best practices, sale of environment friendly products and exchange ideas. It is jointly organized with the Centre of Environment (CEE) on 23.02.2025 the green campus of CEE, Thaltej. The inauguration session was graced by Sh. Kartikeya Vikram Sarabhai, founder and director of the (CEE), Shri Archit Bhatt, Managing Director, Tripada School, Sh Khamir Joshi, Prant Member of Paryavaran Sanrakshan Gatividhi and Shri Uday Karani, Sanghchalak, Memnagar, Karnavati. Shri Kartikeya Vikram Sarabhai deliberated on the initiatives to be undertaken in the times to come. One of the initiatives is at least eat one product grown at your own home. A total of 40 NGOs/institutions working in the field of environment participated and 1000+ people visited the event.
